Ummmmm..you need a PAL ..PAL is the asian version so you could play online with asian people...NTSC is the american version so you could play online with the americans..And you gotta be careful buying your CDs cuz PAL CDs dont work on NTSC consoles..and NTSC CDs dont work on PAL consoles..

NTSC is used mainly in North America, Japan, Mexico and Canada, and PAL is used almost everywhere else in the world including Australia and NZ. If you go to your local (walmart? ), electoronics store, and buy what they have on the shelf I am pretty sure they are only going to sell the PAL type. ....and if you order off of ebay just make sure you buy the PAL type. NTSC has a resolution of 352 x 240, and PAL has a video resolution of 352 X 288. PAL generates 25 full frames per second with 635 lines per frame while NTSC produces 30 frames a second with 525 scan lines per frame. Due to screen interlacing (in which all the odd lines and then all the even lines of the frame are presented), the vertical scan frequencies for PAL are 50Hz (50 scans per second) and 60Hz for NTSC. This basically means that the NTSC system sacrifices video clarity to minimize flicker, while PAL accepts more flicker to gain an improvement in clarity. A PAL signal can not be replayed on an NTSC TV or Video, and conversely an NTSC signal can not be replayed on a PAL TV or Video. However many current TV’s and Video Players are both PAL and NTSC compatible. If you try to play back a video recorded on a non compatible system it may play back in B&W or not at all.

The previous answers are mostly correct but seem to be missing the essential point: TVs sold in North America use a system called NTSC to encode and decode the video data. TVs sold in other parts of the world use a system called PAL. There are lots of technical differences between them, but the key point you need to know is that they are NOT interchangeable. If you are living in Indonesia, your TV is a PAL set -- you need to buy the PAL-compatible PS3 or it won't work on your TV.

Check your TV first. Most tv's support both Pal and NTSC . If your tv does.. the it really doesn't matter which one version you buy. But blueray dvds will be region encoded. so its probably best to buy a ps3 that will support your own regions blueray. i assume from the above answer it would be PAL however you can o to the below site to confirm . If you don't plan to use your ps3 to watch bluerays. it will not matter which one you use. (provided your tv supports both)

if youve got a HDTV then it doesnt matter about pal and ntsc as all HDTVs can support both, the only thing you need to worry about is buying ps1 and ps2 games (if you want them for backward compatibility) and DVDs. PS3 games are apparently region free although there has been a few people on here who have said that theirs haven't worked, so its just the DVD films that are region encoded.
