indonesia is unique with cultural diversity and natural beauty.i heard there are arabs that live in indonesia.what i want to know is how did arabs came there and the history of arabs that live there.how many arabs live in indonesia.are there a large amount or a small proportion. no im not confusing trust im talking about the arab people i know the difference.just heard there are arabs not muslims because indonesia is mainly muslim the ethnic arabs ive heard.trust me i know the difference

I think you're confusing Muslims with Arabs. There are a lot of Muslims in Indonesia. Arabs are people who speak Arabic.

There are arabs in Indonesia. And I must say that there are so many of them (although it is not so much as if it is compared to the other ethnics such as chinese). They usually live in a certain region. It's like 'Pecinan' for chinese. See?? You must understand that Indonesia is located between Asia and Australia. And a long time ago, many merchants came to this country, whether for only passing it or even for trading with the local people. We can imagine that chinese passed Indonesia to sell their goods to the arabs and vice versa (It has something to do with the route). Of course, they won't stay on their ship forever. Do you mean Muslims? Arabs belong to the Semitic race, as do the true, original people of Israel.. Not all Arabs are Muslims. And there is a large Muslim population in Indonesia. Malaysia also has a large Muslim population - maybe that's the link.

As far as I know Indonesia has a population of more than 200 millions. The Arabs are small portion. Most of them are from Yemen. I would be surprised if they were more than a million, probably a lot less. There are Arabs who migrated to Indonesia long time ago & they pretty much dissolved in the society.

Yes, there are many Arab in Indonesia. Arab Indonesian ancestors mostly came from Hadramaut, Yemen as traders in about 7th or 8th century (if I'm not mistaken). Arab traders also introduced Islam in Indonesia (which was Hindu/Buddhist at the time), therefore, Arab Indonesians are traditionally Muslim. Many Arab traders also intermarry with the local people at the time but many only marry with another Arab. Arab Indonesians also have their own surnames such as Assegaf, Al-Bakrie, Shihab, Sungkar, Cherid, etc. It's estimated that there are about 4 million people of Arab descent in Indonesia (compared to overall about 240 million).
