I want to hike a live volcano in Indonesia. Can you suggest what is the best location. I need to get there from Jakarta for a weekend trip. What is the fastest way to get there (eg flying) and what city would I fly into. What city should I stay in for the weekend to hike this volcano.

maybe u can try semeru...located in east java...from jakarta u can fly to surabaya it's a bout 1 hour....then going to malang...to start the hiking but if i am not mistake u should report ur hiking activities cause this mountain so difficult to hike...

You can try Mt. Merapi in Central Java, Indonesia. The mountain is not very high, but definitely the most active volcano in Indonesia (its last big eruption was in 2006). You can stay there for the weekend. (as far as I know, there are 2 different routes to climb this mountain: via Magelang or via Boyolali. But the best way to reach those cities is from Yogyakarta).
